ebay asked us to create an interactive map of Europe that highlighted cross-border trade among its sellers and buyers in 28 EU member states. Its purpose was to help eBay explain to European governments how it was supporting local economies, as well as helping local entrepreneurs to expand their international trade.

The solution

BWD created an interactive map that would reveal more useful information about each country’s export trade. We designed infographics for each of the 28 countries, where users could access cross border trade data, digital density regional rank, commerce data and the top 5 categories of exports and export destinations. The country data was also optimised for tablet users to share in meetings with government ministers.

The result

Interpreting a complex dataset through an interactive map and accompanying infographics provided a fascinating glimpse into what Europe’s entrepreneurs were selling and to whom. It also demonstrated ebay’s role in encouraging cross-border trade and supporting European economies and entrepreneurs. In turn, the map provided the government relations team with a useful tool to talk to governments.
